Student Life

In HSS, students work hard, but the program also offers ample opportunities to build lasting bonds. From the beginning of their UT Austin experience to graduation, students benefit from the support of upperclassmen, creating a strong, supportive community. Throughout their journey, they participate in events and activities that foster camaraderie and celebrate their accomplishments together. These connections and experiences help form friendships and professional relationships that extend beyond the Forty Acres.

Summer Cohorts

The summer before freshman year, students are sorted into cohorts based on their interests and preferences. Cohort leaders, who are students with at least one year of experience at UT, provide guidance and support throughout orientation, registration, and the adjustment to college life.

BML Families

At the start of each year, students can join Big Middle Little (BML) families, which consist of members from different years. Families are encouraged to attend various events for points, competing for the title of most involved and an end-of-the-year prize. BML families help students build lasting relationships and connections across different grade levels within HSS.

Senior Banquet

Each year, HSS hosts an end-of-the-year banquet to honor the graduating senior class and their accomplishments. Faculty and students come together to reflect on memories, discuss future plans, and celebrate the achievement of graduating as honors students from UT Austin.

Socials

Throughout the school year, HSS hosts a variety of casual socials where students can get to know each other and spend time with faculty over food and fun activities. These events offer a chance to take a break during stressful times and seek support from a tight-knit community.

HSS Campout

At the beginning of each fall semester, students have the opportunity to build lasting bonds and ease into the school year at HSS's annual campout. They spend the night outdoors, participating in fun activities with fellow members of the HSS community, creating memories and friendships that last throughout their time at UT.
